It is no secret that I’m the girl/woman that loves everything and anything whimsical (and frou frou.. almost). Nothing beats receiving or buying ‘happy’ merchandise. Items that make you smile, that have lovely quotes. Recently, I’ve been much into ‘quotes’. I’ve bought quite a number of quote cards and posters and actually, it’s been almost all my life that I love reading quotes.

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the opening of WEEKENDS brought to you by the same retail folks behind Monoyono. I had like to say that these guys got it right when they came up with this one-stop lifestyle concept with the one theme of “Do more of what makes you happy”.

Everything that you see in the store encapsulates this. The products are a cheerful and eclectic mix of designer stationery, jewelery, accessories, wall art prints etc that scream color, joy and fun. The store has loads of whimsical charm and cheerful colors with great merchandising to boast of. One of my favorite parts of the store is actually the facade which were inspired by drawers. Each has a little white card with a name of some celebrity or word. I was invited to contributed mine and of course, mine said ‘Hot Chocolate’. I mean that’s what my weekends mean. And it was aptly placed below ‘Afternoon Naps’ 😛

fresh® Spring 2015 Launches

February 16th, 2015 No Comments »

fresh® opened their first standalone store in Singapore earlier this week at Ion Orchard (#01-05) and it will mirror the concept stores in New York – definitely exciting news for all fresh® fans as it will offer the full range of products that might not be available at Sephora previously such as the famous Oval soaps, candles and selected range of products that are exclusively distributed only in fresh® stores.

I’ve not been down to the store yet but earlier this year, I had the honor of previewing the line of new products and I was so excited. Firstly, I’ve been waiting for the fresh® candles like forever. It’s so hard to get it even from the U.S and I actually got my first candle from SF all thanks to a friend who lugged it back for me. I was happily sniffing all the candles and my favorites are Sake, fresh Life, Cannabis and Sugar. The other product that I’m definitely getting my hands on is the Oval soaps. That’s how fresh® started after all and these soaps at a hefty 250g come beautifully packaged and topped with a semi-precious stone. Freesia and Verbena are the two that I will be buying, not to use (can’t bear to!) but to display or scent up the space.

Aside from personalized services and a whole refreshing new retail experience, you will also see product ranges such as the Sake Bath and Creme Ancienne and the full product offering of other collections such as the Brown Sugar body care. If you have not been acquainted with fresh® yet, please do pop by the store and trust me, you’ll be convinced :) And if you are in a dilemma on what products to first get on board with, may I suggest the Sugar treatment lippes, facial masks (Black Tea and Brown sugar polish are my current favorites) or you can try one of their newly launched products here (click below for the review).

I’m excited for fresh®’s new store opening and hope you feel the same too! xo

fresh® Holidays 2014 at Corner House

November 16th, 2014 No Comments »

It’s been a fab beauty journey with fresh® and I’ve really enjoyed using the range of skincare products. I’m a huge fan now and I’m fortunate to be able to enjoy the brand’s generosity. To celebrate the upcoming festivities, fresh®  invited us to gather for a Christmas lunch at Corner House where we mingled over fabulous food and had a chance to pick out gifts.

This Christmas, fresh® has put together some lovely Sugar gift sets that are perfect and will be definitely much appreciated by your loved ones. The Sugar lip care range is one of my favorites and I always have one somewhere with me. In fact, if you’ve never tried the brand, it’s a perfect introduction into it and I’m confident you’ll be convinced thereafter.

I can’t wait for the standalone fresh® boutique to grace our sunny shores early next year! And also, I’m dying to get my hands on the candles. It’s currently only available in several cities and I’ve already been searching online to try and procure one for myself. The scent is heavenly.

Aside from that, I wanted to also do a quick shoutout on Corner House. While it is uh quite tricky to find the place – many of us got lost or delayed finding our way in.. it is quite worth the hike. The menu is fashioned around the gastro-botanica concept which focuses on refined presentation around protein and botanical elements.

The salmon trout with horseradish, creme fruit, tobacco and apple was divine as a starter. I opted for the Atlantic Cod for the main and it was a melt in the mouth perfectly seared cod fish with a modest serving of risk pasta, legumes with a horseradish vin blanc. The key highlight was dessert! It was said to be the chef’s interpretation of kaya toast and boy was it out of this world! I actually would like to return and you can see more of the menu here.

Thanks fresh® for having me!

Luxottica Spring Summer 2015 Preview

November 9th, 2014 No Comments »

My preference in accessories changes and shifts over the years. It used to be statement earrings and necklaces and loads of arm candy. Lately, I’ve toned down on the arm candy – still love ’em, but prefer subtle layering pieces. While I still wear my statement colorful necklaces occasionally, I’m more often seen wearing classic delicate necklaces, bracelets and rings these day. Perhaps it’s age or a phase *shrugs. One accessory that I’ve been more keen on is actually eye wear. I have a number of optical spectacles (no degree, just for vanity :P) and do appreciate trendy but practical sunnies. It was quite fitting when Luxottica kindly invited me to their Spring Summer 2015 preview and I had a chance to browse through a variety of brands including Ray.Ban, Prada, Miu Miu, Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, Tiffany, Burberry, Armani and a couple others. It was indeed an eye-opener (pun intended) and a lovely preview of what’s to come or actually, most are already available at stores.

Although these are from the Spring Summer collection, the colors aren’t as vibrant and colorful as I’ve expected them to be. It feels more like Fall Winter color tones actually which makes it more wearable despite the quirky trendy frame shapes and decorative details. There were so many favorites that I tried on and it’s hard to pick just one. There is the Ray.Ban Tech Light Ray that has titanium frames making it unbelievably lightweight (literally weightless and apparently quite indestructible), the retro inspired yet modern style of Oliver Peoples, the hand-embellished glitter crystal sunglasses from Miu Miu, and not forgetting the delicate beauties from Tiffany. I have my eye on a number and shall check them out in-stores!

There are too many to share so I shall pick some of my favorites..

fresh® Black Tea Collection

August 14th, 2014 No Comments »

For most that know, I’m not a coffee drinker. I’ve tried many types and still find comfort in drinking tea. My absolute favorite is Earl Grey tea and sencha. I’ve known that tea is good for the system as it contains anti-oxidants amongst many other benefits. It never occurred to me that having it in skincare would be beneficial as well or perhaps, brands haven’t quite explored it yet. fresh® is not as mainstream here as it is in other parts of the world. Admittedly, I’m new to the product offerings as well. I’ve heard rave reviews about the fresh® Black Tea collection but haven’t had a chance to try any of the products so I was definitely stoked when fresh®  contacted me asking if I would like to attend the Black Tea Collection event.

The last summer event was pretty much a big wow and in one word – impressive. I wasn’t expecting to be similarly wowed because it’s quite tough to beat Capella, fresh roses and all the fancy desserts 😛 Having said that, fresh® had an enjoyable evening arranged for the group of us ranging from black tea infused desserts by House@ Dempsey, a tea appreciation learning session by Tea Chapter which got me really interested in the intricacies of tea making and appreciation, and finally, we were ushered into another room to experience the Black Tea Collection.

What’s the inspiration behind specifically selecting black tea as an ingredient in this range? The fresh® founders, Lev and Alina, are tea lovers and their obsession with it began when they sampled kombucha, a fermented drink made with black tea. Kombucha is reputed in China for being the “Immortal Health Elixir”. Lev and Alina noticed a boost in their energy levels after drinking kombucha and spent time researching on it and discovered that kombucha assists in restoring lost skin luster and helps in keeping it firm. This is extremely helpful when skin ages and matures. And that in a nutshell is how black tea came in as an ingredient in fresh® products!

Kiehl’s Celebrates 10 years of service in Singapore

July 20th, 2014 No Comments »

Kiehl’s is celebrating their 10th year of service here in Singapore  by launching their ever first, Kiehl’s Ultra Generous Truck!  Till 27th July, the mobile truck (or pop up truck as I call it) will be bringing the Kiehl’s store experience to you. Visit the truck to pick up some sample goodies and enjoy some special deals.

More on the special activities later on, but firstly, some cool facts. Kiehl’s opened its first boutique in Scotts Square in 2004 and the first charity that it worked with was Mainly I love Kids (MILK). One thing why I’m a huge Kiehl’s supporter is because they give back to the community and constantly support charities. In 2005, my absolute favorite Power Strength  Line Reducing Concentrate was introduced and it now sells 1 per minute globally. Seriously, this is the best product ever! Fast forward to 2014, Kiehl’s now boosts 10 standalone boutiques and has counters at 2 departmental stores in Singapore. Psst. I hear one more counter/store is opening in a very convenient location soon :)

At the mobile truck, you can not only test out products and get samples, if you take a selfie with the Kiehl’s pop up truck and hashtag on Instagram #KiehlsUltraGenerous and follow the KiehlsSG Instagram and Facebook account, upload the photo to both and stand a chance to win Kiehl’s Top 10 Customer Favorite product hamper worth SGD$450! This will include my favorites like the Power Strength  Line Reducing Concentrate, Dark Spot Corrector, Sunscreen, Calendula Toner and more!

If you are feeling artsy and creative or just want Kiehl’s to contribute SGD$5 to the National Park Board’s Garden City Fund, grab a clean sheet of paper, some colored pencils or markers and draw a picture! Every picture will result in a contribution by Kiehl’s on your behalf. Why is Kiehl’s tying up with National Parks Board? Well, one of the big launches this year is the Calendula Deep Cleansing Wash which was launched earlier this year. Ingredients used in Kiehl’s products and of course in the Calendula wash are made from natural ingredients. Since herbal remedies, exotic botanicals and natural ingredients are key in Kiehl’s product success, the best way is for them to contribute back to nature by supporting the causes around it!

Check out the link  to see where you can catch the mobile truck!

Somersby Summertime Cookout

June 22nd, 2014 No Comments »

It seems like a really long time ago when P and I attended Somersby’s Summertime Cookout at Crab in da Bag @ Big Splash about a month back! I’ve been on non-stop travels since the start of June and I’m barely catching my breath before I head off again in a bit.

Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of cider but I do enjoy the ones by Somersby. It’s tastes deceivingly non-alcoholic but has a 4.5% alcoholic content per bottle! Best taken on the rocks, the cider is sweet, fruity, bubbly and refreshing. Between the pear and apple cider, I’m leaning towards the apple! I think it’s because it tastes like apple juice 😛 Very very deceiving.

The cookout was to celebrate the launch of Somersby Pear Cider (officially in March 2014).  The invites were sent out pretty early and I couldn’t wait for it to happen! It was also more enjoyable as I could bring along a friend so I invited P who enjoys cooking. We both were pretty blown away by the personalized aprons and chef’s hat, gorgeous wooden box containing two bottles of cider and above all, a very enjoyable and delectable cooking experience.

It was my virgin visit to Crab in da Bag and I hear it is very popular. It’s known for selling fresh seafood that is seasoned with their signature Louisiana spice, served on special parchment paper sans cutlery and plates. It’s literally a hands-on experience to be enjoyed with family and friends. We were given some insider tips on how to cook the incredibly yummy salty egg yolk prawn dish which I intend to replicate soon. The Somersby ciders not only went well with the prawns and seafood, you can also add in a splash of pear cider into the prawns to enhance the flavors. I did just that and it was yummy!

Looking at all my pictures, I’m craving for the salty egg yolk prawns and seafood once again! And a bottle of chilled Somersby cider. And some dessert. And some good company. Now who wants to join me?

Have a lovely lovely hopefully chilled week ahead! xo

Somersby Apple and Pear Ciders retail at all leading supermarkets and hyper marts at SGD$16.80 for a pack of 4 bottles.

I was invited to Somersby Summertime Cookout and given the products for sampling purposes however all opinions remain my own
